C.S. Lewis wrote: "There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations–these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit–immortal horrors or everlasting splendours. This does not mean we are to be perpetually solemn. We must play. But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously–-no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption. And our charity must be a real and costly love, with deep feeling for the sins in spite of which we love the sinner–no mere tolerance, or indulgence which parodies love as flippancy parodies merriment. Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbour is the holiest object presented to your senses."
Our neighbor is of infinite value, and God has called us to love our neighbor as ourselves. The only higher command is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Often, the way we are called to love the Lord our God is through our active love for our neighbor.
The Apostle Paul put it this way: “for you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Growing out of two decades of cross-cultural, bilingual marriage within the largest immigrant metro area in the United States, Word of Hope inc is our answer to the Lord’s call to seek first His Kingdom and its righteousness by serving our neighbors in love and encouraging the body of Christ to do the same.
Word of Hope inc is a 501 c 3 organization founded in October 2024 and born out of the faith, endurance, and tireless effort of Nora Hodne.
Word of Hope exists to build the Kingdom through direct immigration services and the equipping of local churches to meet the needs of migrants in their congregations and communities.
Nora Hodne was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and came to the United States where she met and married Gregory Hodne, with whom she has raised two wonderful children, Dylan and Genesis. A true Proverbs 31 woman, Nora has dedicated herself to her family, working in a range of jobs that allowed her to maintain a focus on the home. As an immigrant, she understands the difficulties of leaving her family, her culture and speaking another language in another country, for these reasons she has a passion for serving the immigrant community. Word of Hope inc finds its roots in Nora’s early work in support of friends and family before becoming an immigration paralegal in 2021, working in both public and non-profit practice. She holds her degree in paralegal studies from Essex County College. Nora is the visionary leader and Chief Executive Officer of Word of Hope inc.
Gregory Hodne grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania as a pastor’s kid enjoying sports and a healthy argument. After high school he attended Penn State University obtaining a degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish. Upon graduation Greg moved to Newark, NJ in fall 2000 to intern in a bilingual church plant. In 2002 he met and married Nora and began working in a local non-profit first teaching English as a Second language, adult literacy, GED, and job readiness for five years before transitioning into a deputy director position writing grants, designing, implementing, and managing adult education, immigration legal services, and workforce development programming. Over the greater part of the next two decades, Greg continued to minister in the church as an elder and teaching pastor, graduating from EFCA Gateway Theological Institute, before leaving the ministry in 2018. He remained at La Casa de Don Pedro before resigning as Sr. Director of Operations in spring 2025 to join Nora at Word of Hope as the Chief Operations Officer.
